Roman Chronicles: Book 1, Apollo: Chapter 16, The Last One

[Note: This is the LAST Chapter in Book 1. The next book is called Gatherings. Hope you enjoy the last chapter! (:]

The paw came up fully. It reached out and batted Ian into the hole it came from. The brownie he had dropped was sucked in along with him. The paw dissapeared. The hole was gone. And so was Ian. I watched as the wind blew calmly as if nothing had happened. Then I knew. It was revenge.

"---and that's how Ian got to the Underworld." I said frantically, trying to make the story short as possible. Ian was an annoying little creep, but he was my brother. (Brother-in-law, anyways.) Chiron nodded. "And, you are requesting a quest? I will accept your offer, only because this is serious. As you know, the prophecy was given early. You remember it, I assume?" I nodded and said, "So, who must I pick? Or do I just, pick?" Chiron stroked his chin and thought. "As this was entirely your idea, the latter. I have a meeting to attend to. Farewell." He trotted away. I needed one charmspeaker, and one powerful-e-ness person. Jamie and Nico.
I took a drachma from my pocket and summoned the power of Poseidon and Iris. An everlasting rainbow. I threw the coin in and said, "Nico, now. No exceptions. I don't care where he is, I'll boot you to Alaska if you don't show me." Fleecy popped up. "That was some serious smack. Ok to that request, though. He's right in the shop, actually! Here." Nico came up. "What's up?" He said. "Uh. Ian was sucked into a hole. I need you for a quest." Nico's eyes widened. "Sucked into a- Ok, then. See you in, I don't know... a few seconds at most." It clicked off. I heard a voice. "Hey." I turned around and Nico was behind me. "Stay here. Or come with me." I walked to the Aphrodite cabin, and Nico was behind me. Guess he chose the latter. I knocked on the door. It clicked open, and I smelled a mix of sweat and perfume. Mostly perfume. There was someone I had never met at the door. She was wearing an an aviator jacket, and torn-up jeans. Her shirt was white, but it was stained and ripped. She was wearing a necklace with two beads. Her hair was braided down with two feathers, and her eyes were blue, green, and brown. She frowned at me. She was really pretty, but it looked like she tried not to be. "What do you want? Has Drew or Jamie done something?" I twirled my fingers. "Er, I need Jamie for a quest. She's a charmspeaker." The girl snorted. "I'm a charmspeaker. And I can fight. Why would you choose Jamie?" She wasn't saying it as if she was suggesting I pick her, she was saying it like Why Jamie? "I don't know... Jamie likes me. She thinks of me as a friend, whereas, I don't even know you." The girl stuck out her hand. "Piper.... um, Piper M-McLean." I looked at her, but I shook her hand. "Where is Jamie?" Piper asked, "Wait, if you're a friend of Jamie... uh, how are you friends with Jamie? Are you a snobbed-up Athena or Demeter kid?" I shook my head and said, "Actually, I'm a child of Ouranos. The name's Roman. Roman Graeca. She's an Ian lover. And Ian's my brother-in-law." She stared at me. "What.... Ok. Ok. You're Ian's sister-in-law.... and a child of Ouranos.... I'll get Jamie. JAMIE!" She shouted into the cabin. Jamie walked out a few moments later. "Hey! What up?" "Um, I need you for a quest. Ian was sucked into a giant hole, and I need you to help save him." She cocked her head. "You're kidding.      Wait, no, you aren't. I'm in." Piper crossed her arms and huffed. As Jamie was getting some stuff, she asked, "So. You ever met my friends, Jason, Leo, and Annabeth?" I looked at the sky. "Er, I've met Annabeth. Haven't even heard of Jason and Leo. Who are they?" Piper uncrossed her arms. "Well, they--" Jamie came back out with a bright duffle bag that was embroided with an unnaturally hot pink heart. Jamie grinned. "Let's go questing!"
