Magic Upon Magic: Something surprising

The taxi drove along the crowded road as the radio announcer spoke about the news: Weird sightings have been seen in a beach in Flordia. A weird creature, according to a witness who survived, had suddenly came in to the beach and started killing innocent people. Fires arose, even in the summer. People ran as the weird creature rampaged through the beach. Many bodies lay dead. Police have been searching for clues about the "creature" and the beach will now be closed until further notice. And now to the weather... I frown, thinking very hard. That was like the vision that I had gotten last night! Elaina seemed to notice the same thing. The cab driver switched the radio channel. 'Happy' started playing, which did not fit the mood right now. We suddenly lurched forward. "Edge of New York." The cab driver says. We unpack, thank him, and set off. Newspaper stands had the blaring headline about the Flordia incident. Jackson unfolded the newpaper quickly and read it out loud to us:

'On June 10th, in a calm beach in Florida, people were enjoying the bright sun and the good weather, but that day was about to be ruined. As people were enjoying the day, a man noticed a strange creature in the midst. He ran for help as soon as the creature came closer to the beach. He ran to a lifeguard, who didn't believe him, thinking that he was out of his mind, he ran for more help. He called the police to come investigate, but it was too late. The creature had reached the main stretch of the beach where everyone was playing and attacked. The creature was unknown to scientists, who had investigated the scene and brought samples of skin of which the creature had left behind. One scientist says, "The skin is authentic and had hurt some of my fellow scientists who were on the team. We looked for the creature in our life list of creatures in the world, but we couldn't find any matches. One scientist suggested that it might have been a different part of the creature, and we tried all sorts of body parts, having no luck. I could have been a trick, another one suspected, but most of us agreed that the chances were very low. We continued to work the sample and compared it to different animals, but it seemed like it was never there." Scientists continue to work this puzzling problem. The beach is now closed until further notice, for there were many left dead when the creature finished attacking. One woman, Ruthia Hanes, spoke about her loss for her child, saying, "My poor child, Jonathan, got killed while playing in the sand, and the creature attacked him just as he was running away to me. I had gotten away just in time, but barely. I watched in tears as my son was killed. I wept as my friend Violet tried to comfort me. I still cry about it as I sleep. My other child, Madison, at first did not feel much about it but then realized our loss. She now cries with me. She says that she does it because it feels too quiet in the house without Jonathan, which makes me cry harder, but at the same time, laugh. We have not told any friends of family, but they will find out soon." Many others have escaped into safety. More details on page number 8.

"More details?!" Jackson threw up his hands. "That seems like enough!" I roll my eyes at him. He turns into a blur. "Hey!" I say as he goes back to his usual spot, holding up my bag of drachmas. "Ah, ah ah!" Jackson teased, holding the bag out of my reach. I snap my fingers and his firm grip drops and the bag falls to the ground as I catch it. The polecat chitters, more like laughs, at Jackson. He ignores the remark. Elaina spoke up. "More importantly, we need to find a place to stay while we're here." She motions to the sun, shining, showing that it was noon. "And a place to eat." Jackson smirked. "I'll handle that." He was off in a blur again, running to my left. Elaina and I waited. We played Chopsticks. We played hand games. We watched the clouds. Sigh. We did practically nothing by the time Jackson returned with McDonalds. "We have to share chicken McNuggets. Barbecue or sweet n' sour?" He asked. I took a sweet n' sour and Elaina took the other. We shared the nuggets and ate. "We should preserve some in case." There were like, 30 left. It was a 50 piece meal. I gave a couple to PC. That stands for polecat. That's what I will call it from now. PC, even though it stands for personal computer or something. She nibbles 5 of them up. I eat another 5 and so does Jackson and Elaina. "I'm not really stuffed." Jackson complains, sort of. Elaina gives him "the look." It was where she raised one eyebrow, put her hands on her hips, and pursed her lips. Jackson surrendered. "As we were waiting, I found a route to Nevada." She unfolds a map of the United States. There were marks all over the place. She also brought out a little brochure. She explained what we were going to do. "Oh, di Immortales sake! It's already 1:00! The train leaves at 2:00! We better get going!" We rush off to the station. We make it in time. Barely. We rush to buy the tickets and hop on to the train. "Excuse me, pardon me," we muttered to people as we rushed to find good seats. "Oh, there!" Elaina said. "We will be leaving in 5 minutes." The train conductor announced. Elaina propped out a 7 inch thick book and started reading. Me? I took out a book too, The Illiad, by Homer. PC is following behind me. Suddenly, the train perched forward. Off we go. Hooray. Jackson looks out the window, staring. He has on a wistful face. I continue with my book. Finally, Elaina screams. "Ugh!" I raise an eyebrow, not looking up from my book. Then it's her turn to raise the eyebrow. Jackson chuckles. "What?!" We say at the same time. "Shut up." I say to Elaina. She says the same thing. "Cut it out!" We burst into fits of laughter. Jackson laughs with us. "So, what?" I say to Elaina." Nothing." She says, which I know is not true. I smirk at her. PC is sleeping, her body is raising up and down, up and down. "So?" I eye Elaina. "Fine, Lo'Reena, you win. I was reign about the history of the Gods, on Heacte to be exact," she gives me the stink eye. "And well, the book is magical and will keep up to date with the next famous child and whatever, but I learned you have not one, but two middle names. One, we know is Hecate, after your mother, but the other, is, Ellen."
