After Whatever After: Nelly

I knock. Knock! Knock! Knock! Nelly opens the door a crack. When she peeks through, she opens it more widely. "Oh. It's you." She said flatly. We entered. Jonah looks at her in disgust. I do the same. "What do you want?" Nelly says expressionlessly to us. I clear my throat and prepare for my best judge voice. "Nelly, we have been to several different fairy tale lands, and fairies in the land have told us that the portal home is in Rose." Nelly, suddenly interested, scrunched up her nose, as if thinking. "That doesn't tell me what you want." I sigh and Jonah rolls his eyes. "We want a portal to Rose." He says exasperated. Nelly didn't catch Jonah's mood. Nelly thinks hard again while we wait there. There are. 9 hours left for our underwater adventure. Nelly continues thinking. Sigh. This is going to take forever. Jonah starts picking his fingernails. " Jonah!" I say, swatting his hand away. Nelly finally figures it out. She says it like we're brand-new to the subject, which we're not. " SO, you want to get out of the place right?" I give myself a nice, throbbing face palm. Ow. It hurt. We nod. Nelly claps her hands. " Wonderful! Just step into this cauldron." I look to the cauldron that Nelly is pointing to. It bubbles and it looks like vomit. I gag to the look of it. Jonah looks like as if Nelly is trying to lure us into the trap or whatever she made. " Jonah, we don't have much time!" I yell, trying to make a point. " But Abby-" " Jonah, do you want to get out of here or WHAT?!" Jonah nods. "Then let's go!" I say. I grab hold of Jonah's hand. We slowly step into the the cauldron. The smell is unbearable. I gag and choke. And the liquid suddenly turns purple. It hisses. And we get sucked into Rose.

The Art and Aspirations of a Commenter
I believe in the power of a free exchange of ideas. I also recognize that words or access to
some information can be of harm to others, intentionally or unintentionally. As a
commenter, I therefore aspire to participate responsibly in the great online conversation
 by:
* treating all bloggers with respect.
* seeking first to understand what is being said.
* celebrating another's accomplishments.
* using school appropriate language.
* rephrasing ideas in the blog that made me think, made me feel, or helped me learn
to let the blogger know his/her voice has been heard.
* commenting specifically and positively, without criticism. If I disagree, I will
comment appropriately, politely stating my perspective.
* being mindful always that I may be a role model to my audience, especially if they
are younger than I.
* making no reference to, link to, and/or giving access to any information that may
 be inappropriate for a school setting.
* asking at least one question in my comment with the hopes of continuing a
conversation and deepening thinking.
* using a triple check before submitting any comment: Would I be happy to have my
mother read this comment? My grandmother? My favorite teacher?
