So, it was a normal day. Nothing weird going on or anything. Just me and my only pal: Jessica , who also just so happens to be the most popular kid in the 5th grade. Signs have already been shown that I was magical. Recess came out. A mysterious figure had been following me around for a while. Now it was outside. We were chatting along when the figure placed a hand on me. I jumped and the figure snapped it's fingers. Jessica immediately cast a dreamy look on her face. The figure spoke. "You have been chosen." It was kind of raspy, as if the figure had lost its voice. "For what?" I shot back at him. He sighed. "You have been chosen to go to Camp Half-Blood." I raised one eyebrow at the figure. He sighed again. "Just follow me." He waves his hand carelessly, as if it didn't matter. I was thinking that this guy was weird.We suddenly are at Camp Half-Blood and Chiron meets me. "Ah, and who is this?" He says, motioning at me. "Lo-Lo'Reena, Lo'Reena Smith." I say nervously. "Yes, Hermes cabin, number 12 if you please." I go to cabin 12, which is full of kids. I guess that Hermes can take anybody; there are a lot of kids. I uncertainly take a empty corner towards some kids in what look like are in their late teens. "Claimed or undetermined?" One of them asks me. "Uh, undetermined?" I say. They both roll their eyes at me. Chiron comes for me and tests me through different courses. I'm not good at anything except magic. It has always been in me. If I am frustrated, like what's I did in archery, the target suddenly exploded in my eyes. Someone thought that I was a Hephaestus kid, so he offered me into the armory. I am super lousy at that one. Nothing suited me. Chiron said that I should just wait to get claimed. A conch horn sounds and everyone rushes for dinner. Every single seat is filled but the time I am there. I almost literally want to sit on the floor instead of having a million kids on a medium sized picnic table or whatever. I see everyone going towards the fireplace and burning part of their meal, so I donate some brisket and pray to anyone of the gods and hope that I will get determined. I see goblets being raised. I nudge someone. "How are you supposed to do this?" The kid looks at me. "Oh. You're the newest undetermined kid. You raise the goblet and say what you want. For example..." This kid of sounds like an Athena kid. "You raise the goblet and say Pepsi." The goblet fills with Pepsi. I get it. I raise my bronze goblet saying "Vanilla Sprite, with extra fizz." The goblet fills up with Vanilla Sprite. I drink it. Mmmmm.... When everyone has polished off the crumbs of their meals, Chiron announces a capture the flag game. I collect a medium, sharp sword, a shied, and a blue-plume helmet. I march off with the other blueheads, feeling ridiculous. When they each position our places, I am in the middle of a forest. The game begins. I wait for something to happen. I start observing my nails, which a Aphrodite kid painted when they felt sorry for me. It was pink with a splash of silver sparkles. I keep on observing, looking for chips and flaws on my nails when I hear a rustle. Two big kids, wearing red-plume helmets meet me. Both seem older than me and one looks like an Apollo kids for their bow and arrows, and the other one... I think the other one is an Aphrodite kid; she is observing her nails and looking in her hand mirror as she is holding a sword. Once the Apollo kid slaps the Aphrodite kid and she starts crying and then gets mad at him for slapping a girl and messing up her makeup, they notice me and start charging at me. I use my sword to deflect the Aphrodite's kid's slashes. The other tries pointing an arrow from behind me, but I snap my fingers. Magic takes over. I take the advantage and force them down. I run as fast as I can, despite the fact that I am wearing armor and am holding a what feels like now a heavy sword. I reach the enemy flag, take it and run for it. I run, finally reaching home base. A cheer rises up from the blueheads and boos of defeat from the redheads as Chiron declares the end of the game. As we are celebrating, a finger is pointed through the crowd. An image appears, I can't see what, but then more fingers point, this time behind me. I turn around and look. There is a man with a caduceus with two snakes around it. He has winged sandals. Hermes. "Name?" He asks me, pointing the caduceus towards me. "Lo'Reena." Hermes scans through a list of names, finally finding my name towards the very bottom. "Yes, yes. Lo'Reena Smith, I suppose...." I nod. "This is a message from Hecate, the goddess of magic. Um... She says for you, Lo'Reena,-" Hermes clears his throat loudly and announces, "Well done, child. You are a child of Hecate,who is the goddess of magic, crossroads, the Moon, and more.' Hmm... Oh, here." Hermes hands me an official looking letter, saying 'Lo’Reena Hecate Smith is the daughter of Hecate, known as the goddess of magic.

Magic upon Magic: Claimed
I want to be able to go to Hogwarts yearly and go to Camp Half-Blood over the summer. Finally, I got my wish. But it turns out life is harder than expected....

My dad said that my middle name was Alison! Hmph. Oh well. I think I like Hecate better because I'm named after my mother. A cabin is followed to me, leaded by the head counselor, Lou Ellen. She is nice. We stumble off to bed, but I wonder if anything else weird might happen.

The Art and Aspirations of a Commenter
I believe in the power of a free exchange of ideas. I also recognize that words or access to
some information can be of harm to others, intentionally or unintentionally. As a
commenter, I therefore aspire to participate responsibly in the great online conversation
by:
* treating all bloggers with respect.
* seeking first to understand what is being said.
* celebrating another's accomplishments.
* using school appropriate language.
* rephrasing ideas in the blog that made me think, made me feel, or helped me learn
to let the blogger know his/her voice has been heard.
* commenting specifically and positively, without criticism. If I disagree, I will
comment appropriately, politely stating my perspective.
* being mindful always that I may be a role model to my audience, especially if they
are younger than I.
* making no reference to, link to, and/or giving access to any information that may
be inappropriate for a school setting.
* asking at least one question in my comment with the hopes of continuing a
conversation and deepening thinking.
