Aerodactyl. That's most definitely my first thought. But these eyes were like fire, burning brighter than any Aerodactyl I had seen.
"Uh... hello. Well, certainly is a nice day, huh? I'll, uh, be leaving."
'DRAGON! DRA-DRA-DRAGONITE!' So it was a Dragonite. Made sense.
"Dragonite! Oh, please, come on! It's Victory Road! We are champions, Dragonite, Champions! Journey further, shall we? Wait a second... Dragonite, are you bothering another trainer?" A melodiously gentle and harsh voice snaps through the eerie echos of the cave.
"Aerodactyl, Flash!" He had none of the simple elegance and grace that Steven had in his speaking...
the melodious-voice man stepped from the shadows.
...but he most definitely did in his looks.
"Oh, I have an utmost apology. Dragonite gets a bit scared in caves. Allow me to introduce myself. Lance, Champion replacement of Blue."
"Oh... um, hi, well, uh.... Lance.... um, hello....!...?"
Lance merely sighed. "Don't worry, I get this a lot with girls." He didn't say it like a conceited teenager who thought they were the most awesome thing in the world, he said it like he was actually being truthful.
"Really? Well, are you actually... Lance? Master Dragon-types trainer? One of my favorite Pokemon I think is a Dragon type. Angel, come on out!"
Lance inspected Angel for a few minutes and started petting him.
"I had one of these once... evolved, though. Good boy... good, Dratini..."
Angel enjoyed it immensely. 'Drat.... Dratini... Drat.... Dragon... Dratini!'
"Where did he, or she, go?"
Lance gave Dragonite a good pat. "Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite!"
At first I didn't believe him, they looked nothing alike. Then I realized this was Lance. Champion of Dragons.
"Oh, and yes, I am 'the' Lance. So you like Dratini? I'd like to introduce you to my cousin Clair."
"Uh... where..."
"Johto, of course. Gym Leader? Rising badge? Hey, why don't you try beating her?"
"C-Clair? I think I'm just a beginning trainer..."
"Nonsense! Take these..." He dumps an arsenal of cutely wrapped blue candies into my bag, "And you'll be all set! Trust me!"
I stared at it an examined it in my hand. "A piece of delicious-looking candy... what do I do with it?"
"It's not what you do-" He unwrapped the candy- it was white with a rather large L. He threw it to Dratini and he ate it. "It's what your Pokemon do!" Dratini glowed white for half a second.
"What did that do?"
"Why, it leveled Dratini up one! Oh, these are good too... it's called an Ultra Rare Soda, and what you just saw was a Rare Candy. Quite good, but I'm afraid Ultra Rare Sodas are too rare to freely give away..."
"That's completely fine... Mewtwo, am I thirsty..."
Lance looked surprised. "Mewtwo? I have not heard such Pokemon spoken of since... Kanto! Do you happen to be from such a place?"
I unwrapped rare candies and fed them to Dratini one by one. "Yes. Pallet town."
"Ah, Pallet town! Many young trainers have I battled from Pallet. One stood out though... what was his name? Yes, Red... I saw him just yesterday..."
The memories again hit me.
~~~~~~~
"Aw, Blastoise! It's OK, though... we gave it our all.." Red was patting a Blastoise.
Then he turned to his side. It was Lance... exactly the one I had seen today!
"Red...."
"Yeah, Lance?"
"Red, you have given it your all. You are worthy of being Champion. May you ever come across one who says otherwise, know from me, they are wrong. Why, a young boy... just your age, in fact... he was Champion once, he was. I was the last of the Elite Four. He, the boy, said he could beat anybody. Anyone. I battled him for the place of Champion. I beat him, and here I stand, telling you you have potential. In fact, that boy... he had a name like yours.... it was... Blue."
~~~~~~~~
"YOU SAW RED YESTERDAY? HE WAS... HE WAS IN Sinnoh!"
"Ah, but I was in Sinnoh, young girl. You want to see and talk to Red, do you not?"
"Yes, I do... I need to tell him about my friend, Blue... who was also his rival."
Lance slit his eyes, which already had resembled the reptilian eyes of a dragon.
"Blue, you say? I know a young man by the name of Blue... oh, the past is past. You want to go to Sinnoh, do you not? I am afraid I cannot come... but... say, do you like Houndoom?"
I nodded.
"I have been aching for Houndoom to leave me, I do not particularly like Dark types. Take this, too..." It was like Blue's bracelet for Charizard's Mega Stone, but it was instead a very thick Salamence-hide choker. The button was shaped like a curled-up Dragonair.
"Dragon skin? But aren't you..."
"The Salamence was dead." He said simply.
The stone was a brilliant scarlet and a beautiful obsidian-black. Instead of a necklace like Charizard had, it was attached to the front of a Houndoom saddle. I buckled it on to Houndoom and carefully inserted the Mega Stone without breaking it into dust. Then I slipped on the rein and led Houndoom outside.
"A mega Houndoom can run extremely fast, even across water. Hold on tightly!"
I slid myself on and held as tightly as I could.
Blue suddenly walked from the building.
So I instantly pressed the choker's button.
