We Are Here To Stay

It was a dark and stormy night and little eight year old Jake was walking down an empty Manhattan street back to the orphanage. He was sad he was all alone with nobody to talk when  suddenly a dog named Buddy appeared out of the shadows. Buddy had asked Jake  "hey there boy are you alone?" Jake replied "yes dog I was alone till you showed up." Then suddenly Buddy was gone. Jake was sad that Buddy had left him so he walked farther up the street when he saw a little girl named Rosie sitting on the side walk playing with her dolls. Rosie saw Jake and asked him in a sweet and sensitive voice "are you alone and have no one to talk to?" Jake replied "there was a dog here but...." Then he realized Rosie was gone too. Jake was even more sad now because both Buddy and Rosie had left him. He was trying to hold back the tears. He walked farther the down the street but it just seemed to get lonelier. Then suddenly Jake saw a sick homeless man named Ralph. He was sitting under a cover when he saw Jake he asked him in a shaky voice "are you sad and alone?" "Yes I am sad" Jake said still holding back the tears. Then suddenly Ralph was gone. Jake started bursting out in tears. I am all alone every one left me. I'm nothing but a misfit. Then out of nowhere Jake saw his dad. He asked his son,Jake, "Jake please don't cry you are not alone and you are definitely nothing close to a misfit." "Why did everyone leave me?" Jake said confused. When Jake's dad said "you don't need to worry anymore because we are all here to stay. We are here to stay with you."

The Art and Aspirations of a Commenter
I believe in the power of a free exchange of ideas. I also recognize that words or access to
some information can be of harm to others, intentionally or unintentionally. As a

* seeking first to understand what is being said.
* celebrating another's accomplishments.
* using school appropriate language.
* rephrasing ideas in the blog that made me think, made me feel, or helped me learn
to let the blogger know his/her voice has been heard.
* commenting specifically and positively, without criticism. If I disagree, I will
comment appropriately, politely stating my perspective.
* being mindful always that I may be a role model to my audience, especially if they
are younger than I.
* making no reference to, link to, and/or giving access to any information that may
